The Global Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibition (MICE) Summit took place in Nairobi, Kenya on 11-13 September 2019. The annual Summit is emerging as the leading platform for the Business Events and Meetings Industry in East and Central Africa. It is the only platform of its kind in East and Central Africa that focuses on MICE development across the continent.

The theme for this year’s Summit was Enhancing Africa’s Competitiveness as a Business Events Destination. There were 30 speakers, eight experiential demos, 30 exhibitors, 15 countries and 12 panel discussions.

As part of the ceremony, an award function also took place on the evening of the 12th. Koketso Menong, Director of The Main Okasion and PCO Alliance member was one of the 200 professionals, investors and industry experts drawn from 15 countries at this year’s Summit. She was nominated for – and won – the Africa’s Mice Exemplary Female Leader of the Year 2019. She received a lot of praise for her accomplishment because the Awards recognise corporates, individuals, venues and small businesses in the MICE industry who are playing a leading role in driving sustainable growth and change across Africa. Koketso is passionate about youth development and her company, The Main Okasion, continuously trains graduates for the real world in tourism and events organising. She is also passionate about exposing upcoming organisers and venues to what it takes to become a professional in the MICE sector.

With exemplary leaders such as Koketso continuously reinvesting in the sector, the future of MICE really looks bright.
